Review:
I loved this film so much as a child. I watched it recently
again after not seeing it in years and it brought back memories.
As rom-com/chick-flicks go, this, at least in my opinion
(though this might be swayed by sentimental value), would be one of the better
ones of the 2000 era. The plot is simple but unique enough to make it stand
out. Sometimes simple works better. It’s cute. And there are some humorous moments.
It’s predictable, yes, but isn’t that what you’re getting into when you watch
this genre?
Lindsay Lohan is in her comfort zone and is a great lead for
this film. I think this is the only film I’ve seen Christ Pine in but he’s very
likable in as the hapless hero. They make a nice pairing here.
McFly make an appearance of course – another means of
bringing back the childhood memories. It’s pretty hard not to like their songs.
This might make the film a bit dated given that McFly have now joined forces
with Busted and are no longer on their own, or in the limelight as much as they
would have been at the time this was made, it’s still good fun. Sometimes this
kind of aspect to the plot can date it (this film is 11 years old now – gasp!)
but the plot is so likable you go along with it and enjoy the ride.
Just My Luck has a charm about it. If you’re a hopeless
romantic or just want a light-hearted movie to pass the evening, this is one to
add to the list.
