Review:
Don't hate me, but I found this film to be...meh.
This reminds me a little of the film “Before Sunrise”,
crossed with “Let The Right One In”, crossed with a more sinister version of “Teen
Wolf” or something along those lines. But not half as good as either of those
films. This one, while it has a cute enough love story, takes SO long to get
going. They dilly dally far too much in the beginning trying to develop the
lead character so we have his background before he meets the girl, but it doesn’t
work, because, at least to me, he wasn’t all that likeable. He wasn’t a bad
character as such, he was just a boring one. The whole beginning of the film I
found boring and really hard to get into. I stayed because I was promised a
good love story…which sort of came to fruition but…I’ve seen better.
Once we get into the mystery and horror aspects of the film
it picks up and becomes a bit more engaging. But we’re waiting too long and by
the time it happened I didn’t care much. I’ll be honest, I was disappointed because
I heard great things about this film and I was looking forward to it.
As for the film’s other attributes, well, they build it up
more than the plot and characters do. The cinematography is good. I liked the
camera’s movements throughout. It made it interesting and gave the film
something different. It’s a shame the story lets these features down. It had
potential to be something far more engaging than I found it.
Some people seem to think this is a great film. It just wasn’t
for me.
